While conducting and administering its’ Fall
2020 sectional tournaments, Section V Athletics will adhere solely to the New York
State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) “Return To
Interscholastic Athletics” document which is based on the NYSDOH guidance (Interim
COVID-19 Guidance for Sports and Recreation).
In accordance with NYSDOH guidance
(Interim COVID-19 Guidance for Sports and Recreation) responsible parties must
ensure a distance of at least six feet is maintained among individuals
at all times, whether indoor or outdoor, unless safety or the core
activity (e.g. practicing, playing) requires a shorter distance. If a shorter
distance is required, individuals must wear acceptable face coverings, unless
players are unable to tolerate a face covering for the physical activity (e.g.
practicing, playing); provided, however, that coaches, trainers, and other
individuals who are not directly engaged in physical activity are required to
wear a face covering. (Pg. 5) •
Responsible Parties must limit
spectators to no more than two spectators per player – both teams.
Venues used for events that are not
owned/operated by a member school may have spectator restrictions.
Sectional
Classifications posted on the website are now official and this year’s Sectional
championships will be based on these classifications.
Due to some local DOH’s recommending
stricter guidelines, some schools may opt out of participating in the
tournament this year. Opting out must be communicated before November 4th
your district’s decision relative to participation. At this time
classifications will NOT change if schools opt out of participating in the post
season tournament.
Please note that games are scheduled on
11/11/20 – Veteran’s Day.
Section V soccer coordinator, may need to
place some games at neutral sites due to field conditions, mileage
restrictions, DOH restrictions, individual district restrictions etc.
A reminder that all games for soccer will
take place at the higher seeded team. Communication between districts is
essential. If a higher seed team can’t host at their home field for any reason,
they can designate a neutral site as their home field as long
as it meets the requirements set forth in the sport specific handbook
and Section V championship policy.
Sectional events / tournaments will not be
delayed if a district’s athletic program is put on “pause” due to COVID related
issues.
